Many times students, especially underprivileged students, are not aware of the opportunities available to them. SYOP aims to expose young adolescents to how exactly STEM concepts that will assist them in their everyday lives and career options later in life.
SYOP provides a personalized experience by speaking to classrooms via consent of their teacher. SYOP facilitates engaging discussions that are tailored to the classroom audience, as well as puts students in contact with STEM guides who can assist them with questions relating to navigation of a STEM-oriented career.
SYOP prioritizes Title I school districts. SYOP guides will meet with all classrooms entirely free of charge. All administrative personnel and STEM guides who work with SYOP are volunteers.
Exceptional college students who are on a STEM track are selected to be guides. SYOP guides do not only demonstrate a top-tier GPA, but also have research experience in a variety of fields. This places the volunteers at a distinct level compared to most of their peers in their respective STEM tracks.
